10:20 – 10:35 Selected talk
10:35 – 10:50 Selected talk
10:50 – 11:15 Felicity Jones – University of Groningen

Ben Simons combines experimental lineage tracing, single-cell methods, and non-equilibrium statistical physics to study stem and progenitor cell behavior in tissue development, maintenance, and regeneration, as well as their dysregulation in disease. Their work has revealed stochastic strategies of stem cell self-renewal in various tissues and explored how natural injury-induced reprogramming is subverted in tumor initiation. Current efforts focus on human epithelial development using advanced stem cell-derived 3D organoid models.

16:30 – 17:15 Keynote lecture by Fiona Watt

Fiona Watt is internationally renowned for her pioneering contributions to stem cell biology. In the 1980s, during the early days of the field, she identified fundamental characteristics of stem cells and their microenvironment, establishing a foundation for much of today’s research. Watt currently serves as the Director of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). She previously led the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine at King’s College London and was the Executive Chair of the Medical Research Council (MRC) in the United Kingdom, becoming the first woman to hold this position since the MRC’s establishment in 1913.
